Would you buy a $300 (about P13,000) 3D printer? Apparently, lots of people would, judging by the phenomenal success of the Micro 3D Printer on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. With hours still to go in its campaign, the Micro has raised more than $3.3 million (approximately P144 million), leaving its $50,000 (about P2.2 million) goal in the 3D-printed dust. |

In 2012, the PancakeBot came to the U.S., appearing at the World Maker Faire in New York. A year later, Valenzuela began working on a non-Legos version. This rendition of the PancakeBot is made of acrylic and features two motors, a microcontroller board, and a vacuum pump for batter control. The new take on his invention debuted last weekend at the Bay Area Maker Faire in San Mateo, Calif. |

I first saw a 3D printer in 2006 at a “home of the future” display loaded with all the latest technology that promised to come standard in new homes within 10 years. The printer was as big as a refrigerator and boasted that you could print a replacement part or custom dishware. |
